Praying the Psalms

Psalm 145 is an acrostic psalm. The first word of each verse starts with the successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Following this example of poetic expression of praise and prayer to God, I have taken select verses from the Psalms to craft this English-language acrostic prayer (using the ESV). The psalms were the prayer and worship book for the Jews. May they enrich our prayers as well. [Note: there are no verses in the psalms that start with the letters Q and X.}

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! (96:7)

Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! (115:1)
Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind! (31:19)
Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law! (119:29)
Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD! (25:7)
Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. (90:14)
Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; (86:11)
Unite my heart to fear your name. (86:11)
Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. (26:1)
Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. (73:25)
You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah (32:7)
Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of your judgments, O LORD. (97:8)

Happy Thanksgiving!
