Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Matthew 9:9-13. Why do you think Matthew follows Jesus so eagerly?
  2. Why were the Pharisees so perturbed by Jesus eating with the tax collectors and sinners? What does their question in verse 11 reveal about their understanding of salvation, the kingdom of God, and the Messiah?
  3. What does Jesus seek to accomplish with his response in verses 12 & 13? What is communicated with the quote from Hosea 6:6?
  4. Consider Oak Hills’ Mission Statement: Longing to Know and Make Known the Astonishing Grace of God. How does this shape what we do as a church? Sunday mornings? Bible studies? Various ministries?

Memory Verse of the Week:

2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (ESV)
