Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ephesians 1:3-14. What is Paul doing in this opening section of his letter to Ephesus? What catches your attention? What causes you to scratch your head?
  2. What do we learn about God in his being and character from his actions highlighted in this passage? In other words, why does God “bless” and “chose” and “predestine” etc.?
  3. What role does Jesus Christ play? What is the significance of the repeated phrase “in him” throughout this passage?
  4. Why does God do what he does (consider verses 6, 12, & 14)? How or in what ways are we “to the praise of his glory”?
  5. What is the Reformation affirmation “Sola Gratia” seeking to communicate? In what ways does this impact our lives today?

 Memory Verse of the Week:

Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. (ESV)
