Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Ephesians 1:3-14. What is Paul doing in this opening section of his letter to Ephesus? What catches your attention? What causes you to scratch your head?
- What do we learn about God in his being and character from his actions highlighted in this passage? In other words, why does God “bless” and “chose” and “predestine” etc.?
- What role does Jesus Christ play? What is the significance of the repeated phrase “in him” throughout this passage?
- Why does God do what he does (consider verses 6, 12, & 14)? How or in what ways are we “to the praise of his glory”?
- What is the Reformation affirmation “Sola Gratia” seeking to communicate? In what ways does this impact our lives today?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. (ESV)
