Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Luke 2:1-21. What stands out to you from this passage? What is not here that we normally think about regarding the birth of Jesus?
- What do you think Luke wants to communicate about the birth of Jesus? Why does he mention the registration, the shepherds, and the angels?
- An ancient inscription describes Augustus as, “Divine Augustus Caesar, son of a god, imperator of land and sea, the benefactor and savior of the whole world...” Compare this with the angel’s announcement in verses 10-12, 14.
- Why is Jesus born in such a humble setting and his birth announced to humble shepherds? What does this imply for us?
- How do the shepherds, the angels, and Mary respond to the news about Jesus? How should we respond?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (ESV)
