When I moved to Kansas City after college, I was researching churches online and stumbled across the Oak Hills website.  I grew up Presbyterian, and decided to check it out.  That first Sunday, before the service began, a guy sat down next to me and started up a conversation.  After talking for a while, he excused himself, and I was shocked when he walked straight up to the pulpit to lead the service.  I had been talking to the head pastor, and didn’t even know it!  He so friendly and interested in getting to know me, that he hadn’t mentioned who he was.  After an incredible sermon, I already had a feeling I found the right church home for me.  Then my decision was confirmed as I got up to leave, there was a group of people waiting to meet me.  Everyone was so welcoming that I immediately felt comfortable at Oak Hills.

It was been so easy for me to connect and serve at Oak Hills.  After several years of working with some of the other ministries within the church, including a high school girl’s bible study, Young Adults, and the nursery, God called me to join the church mission’s trip to the Yakama Native American Reservation in Washington.   On my first trip to Yakama, the Lord opened my heart to the poor and the lost and I was able to see Him at work restoring hope on the reservation.  I feel blessed to honor Him by showing God’s faithfulness and continuing to return to Yakama to serve, love, and build relationships with the Yakama people.

From the very beginning, I was able to see the church’s philosophy of ministry at work.  The preaching is full of God’s truth and sound doctrine and worship is alive and filled w/ God’s presence.  I have witnessed the characteristics of Christ displayed by the church body at Oak Hills, as they genuinely love and care for each other.  As Oak Hills extends further into the Lord’s mission field, I have been blessed to see how God uses me to love and serve others.
