Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 1:40-45. What strikes you about this passage? Consider what Jesus has just said in verse 38. How does this encounter with the leper fit with Jesus’ mission?
  2. What emotions does Jesus exhibit in this passage (if possible, compare with other Bible translations, like ESV, NLT and NIV)? What do the emotions of Jesus reveal about him?
  3. In what ways are we like the leper? How is our sin, and disobedience, like leprosy? How do we “obey” Jesus’ command to “be clean”?
  4. How does compassion fit in with gospel ministry? How do we grow in compassion? How can we demonstrate compassion in our context (Johnson County, KC metro)?
