Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 4:1-20. Why does Jesus shift his teaching to parables? What do we learn about the crowd from this? What is the main focus of this parable of the sower? What is the Word?
  2. Consider verses 10-11. What role does the grace of God play in our hearing of the Word? How can we “appeal” to the grace of God?
  3. Describe the 4 types of people highlighted in the parable. How does one become “good soil”?
  4. What is the fruit of the good soil? Where are you fruitful? What “thorns” in your life are choking fruit?
  5. Explain what it practically means to “hear” the word and “accept” it? What is our responsibility in how we hear the Word?
