  1. Read 2 Timothy 4:1-8. This is like reading a dying man’s last words. What stands out to you? Why does he seem to not fear death?
  2. What does Paul mean by saying, “all those who have loved his appearing”? Who are these people? How do they live?
  3. Consider some other passages from Paul’s writings about the second coming: Titus 2:11-14; Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Corinthians 1:4-9; Romans 8:18-25. Why is the second coming of Christ so important to Paul? How does the promised coming of Christ shape Paul’s ethical teaching?
  4. What is hope? How can hope be rooted in something that is future? Practically, what does hope look like in the Christian’s life day to day?
