Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Mark 12:13-17. We read in verse 15 that Jesus knows the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and Herodians. How are they hypocritical? How can we be hypocritical in our approaches before God?
  2. Why would they “marvel” at Jesus’ answer?
  3. Explain Jesus’ answer in verse 17. How would this apply in our world today?
  4. Considering Romans 13:1-2, James 1:17, and 1 Corinthians 4:7, how should we understand Jesus’ words in Mark 12:17? Ultimately, what things are “Caesar’s,” what things are “God’s,” and what things are ours? What does it mean to “render” all things to God?
