Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read 2 Kings 14:23-29. Hosea prophesied during the reign of Jeroboam. What do we learn about the kingdom of Israel under Jeroboam’s reign?
  2. Read Hosea 1:1-2:1. Hosea had a specific message for Israel in the 8th century B.C. How shall we listen and apply Hosea as followers of Christ in the 21st century?
  3. What does the imagery of whoredom communicate about Israel, their sin, and God’s relationship with his people? What kind of relationship does God want?
  4. In what ways are we like these three children of Gomer? From where does our hope come?
  5. Read 1 Peter 2:9-10. What parallels do you see with Hosea 1:10-2:1? How does the truth of these verses purify us?

Memory Verse of the Week:

1 Peter 2:10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (ESV)
