MESSAGE - Pastor Dale Thiele

God Spoke by His Son

A Mission of Service

  • Not What We Want
  • What We Need
  • A Pattern Established

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Mark 10:32-45. Why does Jesus tell plainly his disciples that he would be crucified in Jerusalem? Why meant they not take in this prediction?
  2. Considering the context, why is James’ & John’s request so audacious? Why do they make this request? In what ways do we want similar things?
  3. What is the “cup” and “baptism” Jesus mentions? Why must his disciples participate in the cup and baptism?
  4. What are the main differences between “worldly” leadership and Christ’s model of leadership? Why does Jesus require this type of leadership?
  5. What does Jesus reveal that we need? Why does what we want often not correspond with what we need?

 Memory Verse of the Week:

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (ESV)
