Angels or The Son

  • The Incomparable Son
  • The Son’s Precedence in the Old Testament
  • The Ministry of the Messengers

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Hebrews 1:1-14. What does the author seek to establish in this opening chapter? How does he accomplish this?
  2. What do we learn about Jesus from verses 2-4? Why are all these characteristics and works of Christ so important?
  3. Look up some of the Old Testament passages the author quotes here (start with Psalm 2, 45, & 110). How do these passages speak of the Son of God? What does the writer of Hebrews want us to glean from these quotes?
  4. Consider verse 14. While Christ is superior to angels, the angels still played a vital role. What is that role? How does this role compare with human messengers? Consider 1 Cor. 1:11-13, 3:4-9; and Romans 10:14-17.

 Memory Verse of the Week:

1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. (ESV)
