- The Incomparable Son
- The Son’s Precedence in the Old Testament
- The Ministry of the Messengers
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Hebrews 1:1-14. What does the author seek to establish in this opening chapter? How does he accomplish this?
- What do we learn about Jesus from verses 2-4? Why are all these characteristics and works of Christ so important?
- Look up some of the Old Testament passages the author quotes here (start with Psalm 2, 45, & 110). How do these passages speak of the Son of God? What does the writer of Hebrews want us to glean from these quotes?
- Consider verse 14. While Christ is superior to angels, the angels still played a vital role. What is that role? How does this role compare with human messengers? Consider 1 Cor. 1:11-13, 3:4-9; and Romans 10:14-17.
Memory Verse of the Week:
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. (ESV)
