Hebrews: The Greatness of Christ

Eagerly Awaiting Christ

  • Sin is Finished Relationally
  • Sin is Finished Judicially
  • Sin will be Finished Completely

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Hebrews 9:23-28. What catches your attention in these verses? How do these verses progress the author’s argument?
  2. In what ways does the author compare Christ to the Old Testament priesthood and sacrificial system? What makes Christ different and better?
  3. Consider the implication of 2 Corinthians 5:21, where Paul says Christ was made to be sin for us. If he was made to be sin, how can he “appear in the presence of God in our behalf” (v. 24)? What happens to sin?
  4. What does verse 27 mean? Should Christians fear judgment? Why?
  5. Who are “those who are eagerly waiting for him” (v. 28)? What does it look like to eagerly await Christ?

Memory Verse: Hebrews 9:27-28

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. (ESV)
