The World Was Not Worthy

  • The Practice of Faith
  • The Limit of Faith
  • The Worth of Faith

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Hebrews 11:32-40. What comes to mind when you hear the names of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel? Were they extraordinary or ordinary people? Explain.
  2. Consider the accomplishments listed in verses 33-35a. In what ways are these extraordinary? In what ways are they rooted in the ordinary practices of life? How does faith transform your ordinary day-to-day life?
  3. A transition takes place in verse 35. What is that transition? What does the author highlight in verses 35b-38? What is the limit of faith?
  4. The people of faith are called “worthy.” What does this mean? What is the worth of faith? How does faith “perfect” us?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Hebrews 11:39-40 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect. (ESV)
