Christmas Through the Eyes of Jeremiah

A New Covenant, A New Hope

  • Why the New Covenant?
  • What’s “new” about the New Covenant?
  • How are we to live under the New Covenant?

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Jeremiah 31:27-34 What stands out to you from this passage?
  2. Focus on the quote from verse 29 and Jeremiah’s rephrasing of it in verse 30. Identify with Israel. What were the Israelites saying as they repeated these words in 29? In what ways do you wrestle with similar thinking in your own life? How does Jeremiah’s response in verse 10 correct such thinking?
  3. Focus on verses 31-34. What is “new” about the New Covenant?
  4. How do these promises find their fulfillment in Christ?
  5. Verse 33 states that in the New Covenant the law will be written on the hearts of God’s people. How is this different from before? How is it better?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Jeremiah 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (ESV)
