Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Judges 1:1-2:5. What happens in this passage? What does God do? What does God say? How do the people respond to God?
  2. What is common among the successes in 1:1-26? What is common among the defeats in 1:27-36? What does this teach us about success and failure in our lives?
  3. How would you categorize God’s response in 2:1-5? Is he being kind? Gracious? Harsh? Forgiving? Is he giving up on his people?
  4. Compare this passage with Ephesians 5:1-16. What parallels can be made between Judges 1 and our growth in holiness? What lessons do we learn to persevere in our growth of holiness?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. (ESV)
