The Fullness of Christ
- The Glory of the Word
- The Difference Between Moses and Jesus
- Receiving Abundant Grace
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 1:1-18. Evaluate the phrase “the Word became flesh” in light of verse 1. How might one misunderstand the truth communicated here (heresy about the person of Jesus)? What is the orthodox explanation of the truths in these two verses (consider WCF VIII.2)?
- What is the glory of the Word? See also John 2:11, 11:40, and 17:24.
- Read Exodus 33:18-34:8. What parallels do you see between this passage and John 1:14-18? Differences?
- Most commentators believe the phrase “grace and truth” is taken from Exodus 34:6, “abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” How does this impact our understanding of this passage, especially verse 17?
- What does “grace upon grace” mean in verse 16? What does it mean to experience the reality of verse 16?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (ESV)
