Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 4:1-26. Why is it necessary for Jesus to travel through Samaria?
- What is shocking about Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan woman? What is revealed in this interchange about race and gender tensions?
- Examine Jesus’ request in verse 7. Is this a literal request? Can it be more? In what way?
- What do the responses of the woman reveal about how she is hearing Jesus?
- Why does Jesus ask her to call her husband? Why is it necessary for her to deal with her sin before receiving living water?
- How about you? What sin do you need to deal with before receiving living water?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Jeremiah 2:13 for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. (ESV)
