John: That You May Believe

What Sort of King is This?

  • The Setting of the Miracle
  • The Power of the Miracle
  • The Intention of the Miracle

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 6:1-15. What catches your attention from this well-known story? Reread it. Are there any details that are fresh to you this time?
  2. Matthew, Mark, and Luke record this same miracle. Jesus’ original intention is a private, restful retreat with his disciples, but the crowds show up. What do we learn from Jesus’ response in these circumstances?
  3. What is the miracle? Why is it important to clarify the miracle?
  4. What is Jesus’ intention with his disciples (v. 5-9)? What is the crowd’s intention in verses 14-15?
  5. Why do our intentions and Jesus’ intentions not match at times? How do we protect against this incongruity?

Memory Verse of the Week:

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (ESV)
