Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 6:16-21. Compare this account with Matthew 14:22-33 and Mark 6:45-52. What is different, the same? How does this story connect with the feeding of the 5,000?
  2. What does the Bible say about the “sea”? Use a concordance or search app. Be sure to consider Revelation 13:1 and 21:1. How does this shape our reading of Jesus’ walking on the sea?
  3. What does Jesus’ walking on the water signify?
  4. Why are the disciples terrified? Why should they not be terrified?
  5. What are you terrified about? How does Jesus’ personhood and presence alleviate those fears?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Isaiah 43:1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. (ESV)
