John: That You May Believe

Offensive Words of Life

  • True Life: Found in Death
  • True Salvation: Enabled by Grace
  • True Believers: Identified by Confession

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 6:52-71. What do the disputes and grumblings and departures of the crowd reveal about what they believe?
  2. What does Jesus mean in verse 55 that his flesh is true food and his blood is true drink? What does it mean to “feed” on Jesus?
  3. What is Jesus emphasizing in verse 65? How is this offensive? How is it comforting?
  4. Why does Jesus let so many people “fall away”? Why doesn’t he make more effort to keep them? How should Jesus’ ministry model influence our ministry models?
  5. What is the significance of Peter’s confession in verses 68-69? Why should this be every believer’s confession?
  6. How does one ensure that he is not a “devil” like Judas?

Memory Verse of the Week:

John 6:68-69 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” (ESV)
