The Freedom of Truth 

  • The Truth is Jesus Christ
  • The Slavery is Bondage to Sin
  • The Freedom is Only in Jesus  

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 8:31-36. How have you used the phrase “The truth will set you free” used? Have these uses been faithful to Jesus’ intention?
  2. Consider John 1:14, 17 & 14:6. How do these verses impact our understanding of “truth” in 8:32?
  3. Read Romans 6:15-23. To what kind of slavery is every person subject? In Paul’s mind, can anyone ever not be a “slave”? Explain.
  4. Look up Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 9, “Of Free Will.” How do paragraphs 3 & 4 help explain what Jesus is teaching in John 8?
  5. How do we grow in our freedom?
