Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 9:1-7. Compare this passage with Luke 10:29-37. In what ways is Jesus the ultimate Good Samaritan? How does the comfort you? How does that challenge you?
  2. What does the disciples’ question reveal about what they believe about the source of suffering? Are they right? Explain. What is the “problem of pain”?
  3. According to Jesus in verse 3, why was this man born blind? What does this mean for our suffering?
  4. What are the works we must be doing (v. 4)? How does suffering play into these works?
  5. In what ways are we like this man born blind? What does Jesus do for us?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. (ESV)
