Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 12:1-11. What do we learn about poverty and the poor from this passage? Why would Jesus say, “the poor you always have with you”?
- Read Deuteronomy 15:7-11 and Proverbs 6:6-11. What do these passages add to the biblical perspective on poverty? Why must we be wary of simple, one-sentence summaries of the Bible’s teaching on poverty?
- Consider Ephesians 4:28 and 1 Timothy 6:17-19. Is it sinful to be wealthy? Explain. What is the biblical mandate for Christians regarding our wealth?
- Read Hebrews 13:5. Why does the writer quote Joshua 1:5? What does this promise have to do with the love of money?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (ESV)
