John: That You May Believe
Greater Works
- The Longing for God
- Jesus Satisfies the Longing
- In Jesus the Longing Produces Fruit
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 14:8-14. What does Philip desire in verse 8? What stories or verses in the Old Testament might help us understand his request?
- Considering the interaction so far in the upper room, why does Philip make this request?
- What does Jesus mean by saying, “whoever has seen me has seen the Father”? How does this apply to us?
- Why is it so important to believe that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus (v. 11)? How does good theology satisfy our longings for God?
- What are the greater works we can do? How does this promise stimulate prayer? Does Jesus limit what he will do for us? How?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 14:13-14 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. (ESV)
