Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read John 14:15-24. Why does Jesus now turn his attention to love and obedience, after assuring his disciples of answered prayer (v. 12-14)?
- Why must the one who loves Jesus obey his commandments? How are love and obedience connected with faith?
- Consider verse 16. Who is the first Helper? The same word is used in 1 John 2:1 and translated “Advocate.” How do Jesus and the Spirit “Help” or “Advocate” for us?
- What assurances does Jesus give his disciples in verses 18-24? Why does he want to assure them?
- How does the teaching in this passage encourage believers to obey Christ?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments. (ESV)
