Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read John 14:18-31. What is “peace”? How does a Hebrew speaker think of peace (look up meanings of the Hebrew word Shalom)? How is this different than the modern idea of peace?
  2. How does the world “give” peace? How is this different from Jesus?
  3. What does Jesus promise in this passage? How do these promises connect with peace?
  4. Consider the promises in this passage. What role does the Holy Spirit play in these promises?
  5. Why does Jesus give his disciples “peace”? How does this peace serve them?

Memory Verse of the Week:

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (ESV)
