John: That You May Believe

Tender to the Vine

  • The True Vine
  • Two Options: To Bear or Not to Bear Fruit
  • Drawing Life from the Vine

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Isaiah 5:1-7. Who is the vineyard of the Lord? What happens with this vineyard? Why?
  2. Read John 15:1-8. How does Jesus’ first statement, “I am the true vine,” connect with Isaiah 5? What does this mean for us (i.e. the church)?
  3. What are the two groups highlighted in verse 2 (and the rest of the passage)? Is there a third group? Explain.
  4. What does it mean to bear fruit? Why is bearing fruit so important?
  5. How can we bear fruit? What does it look like to “abide in Christ”? What hinders us from abiding in Christ?

Memory Verse of the Week:

John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (ESV)
