John: That You May Believe
Tender to the Vine
- The True Vine
- Two Options: To Bear or Not to Bear Fruit
- Drawing Life from the Vine
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Isaiah 5:1-7. Who is the vineyard of the Lord? What happens with this vineyard? Why?
- Read John 15:1-8. How does Jesus’ first statement, “I am the true vine,” connect with Isaiah 5? What does this mean for us (i.e. the church)?
- What are the two groups highlighted in verse 2 (and the rest of the passage)? Is there a third group? Explain.
- What does it mean to bear fruit? Why is bearing fruit so important?
- How can we bear fruit? What does it look like to “abide in Christ”? What hinders us from abiding in Christ?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (ESV)
