That Which Shapes Us

God’s Natural Law

  • The Impartiality of Natural Law
  • The Reality of Natural Law
  • The Influence of Natural Law

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Romans 2:12-16. What advantage might a Jew believe he has over Gentiles? How does Paul demonstrate that this is no advantage?
  2. What does “by nature” mean in verse 14? How is this connected with all humans being created in the image of God?
  3. Read Romans 1:18-23. What limits the influence of natural law on people?
  4. Read the Reflection on page 3 (if you have time, read the whole article: https://www.firstthings.com/article/2014/08/a-church-for-exiles). What influence does natural law have on Christians’ engagement with culture? What expectations ought we have? Do you agree with Trueman? Why or why not?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Romans 2:15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them. (ESV)
