Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Ephesians 1:1-2. Have you ever studied Paul’s letter to the Ephesians? Do you have any favorite verses or parts? What stands out to you about Ephesians?
- Who is Paul? Why is it so important that he is an apostle of Jesus Christ? Consider 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 and 1 Timothy 1:15. How does Paul’s sense of “unworthiness” impact his ministry?
- In you have time, read Acts 19. What catches your attention about the Ephesians? In what ways do we live in a similar environment as Ephesus? Why would Paul write this letter?
- In a sense, how is the opening benediction, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father,” an excellent summary of the gospel? One commentator says that grace is a one-word summary of the gospel. Why would he say that?
Memory Verse of the Week:
1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. (ESV)
