  • The Value of Life in Procreation
  • The Value of Life in Animals
  • The Value of Life in Humans

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Genesis 9:1-7. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
  2. Verses 1 and 7 serve as an inclusion for this section. What is repeated and why is it so important?
  3. Compare 9:1-4 with Genesis 1:28-30. What is similar? What is different? What explains the differences?
  4. Why is there a prohibition from eating the blood of animals? How does this connect with the use of blood in sacrifices? Consider Leviticus 17:10-12.
  5. Genesis 9:5-6 is one text used in support of capital punishment (cf. Ex. 21:24-25; Lev. 24:17). Why does God prescribe such a punishment? How should we think about and apply this today?
  6. Where is the gospel in this passage? In other words, how is this passage connected with God’s plan to redeem people by the blood of Christ?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Hebrews 9:22 Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (ESV)
