The Holy One

  • Walking Through Fire With God
  • The Incomparable Holy One

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Isaiah 43:1-7. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
  2. What do we learn about God from these verses? How do the names of God shape our understanding of who God is?
  3. Consider 42:18-25. How do these verses shape our understanding of the “waters” and the “fire” of 43:2? What comfort are we promised in verse 2?
  4. The name “The Holy One” emphasizes more than the purity of God. It highlights the uniqueness of God (cf. 40:25 in it’s context). How does the uniqueness of God assure us when we face various hardships and trials?
  5. The command is “Fear not.” Why do we (get personal, why do you) fear people, circumstances, the future, the unknown, etc.? In what ways is our fear a despising of the Holy One (cf. 1:4)?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. (ESV)
