Genesis: Foundations for Life
The Lord Will Provide
- The Sacrifice of Abraham
- The Sacrifice of Isaac
- The Blessing of Sacrifice
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 22:1-24. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- What must Abraham sacrifice in this test (other than the obvious, his son)? Why does God put Abraham to this test?
- How does Abraham respond to the test? How is he able to do what he does?
- In what ways are we like Isaac in this episode? In what ways are we different from Isaac?
- In light of verses 15-19, what is the relationship between the grace of promises and obedience and faith?
- Both Jesus (Matt. 16:24) and Paul (Rom. 12:1) call us to sacrifice. Why? In what ways is God calling you to sacrifice today? What do you need to do?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (ESV)
