Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Psalm 128. The psalmist ties the blessed life to fearing the Lord. What does it mean to fear the Lord and what would it look like in your life to fear the Lord?
- v.2-4 paints pictures of the prosperity and blessedness experienced for those who fear the Lord. How do we make sense of this in light of the many trials and tragedies we may face? How do these pictures direct us to the wondrous blessing of redemption?
- Do you think about blessings in mostly material things before you? How does this psalm help us to lift our eyes to God the Giver and not merely grow enamored with the gift alone?
- It can be easy to read Psalm 128 from the lens of our culture’s bent toward individualism. How does Psalm 128 encourage us away from this and to see the wonder of God and His wonderful works through the church?
- How does this psalm point us to the gospel? How can you take this psalm and make it your prayer this week?
Memory Verse of the Week:
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (ESV)
