Genesis: Foundations for Life
Grieving Death
- Death Reveals Your Grief
- Death Reveals Your Treasure
- Death Reveals Your Hope
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 23:1-20. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- Death is devastating in so many ways. Why? What does our grief over death reveal?
- Abraham identifies himself as a “sojourner and foreigner.” Peter uses these same words as the identity of the church in 1 Peter 2:11. What is the significance of these identity markers? How do these identity markers shape our response to death?
- After an elaborate exchange, Abraham gains possession of a plot of land. Compare this with Genesis 12:7. In what way does possession of the land represent Abraham’s hope in God’s promises?
- Read Hebrews 11:13-16. What is the heavenly country that is desired? How does such a desire or hope soften the sting of death?
Memory Verse of the Week:
1 Thessalonians 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. (ESV)
