- Enemies Welcomed into the Kingdom
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 25:1-18. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- Consider the promises made to Abraham throughout his life (Gen. 12:1-3; 15:15; 16:10-12; 17:5-7; 17:19-20). In what ways are these promises fulfilled in Genesis 25? In what ways are they not fulfilled?
- In what ways could the death of Abraham be devastating to the covenant family? Why is the death (or departure) of prominent leaders so hard for groups to handle? Who or what sustains the covenant people? Consider Genesis 25:11 in light of Isaiah 46:3-4.
- How should people of faith think of Ishmael and his descendants? Why?
- Read Isaiah 60:1-7. Compare the names mentioned in Isaiah 60 with the ones in the genealogies of Genesis 25. What do you notice? How does this shape our perspective of the descendants of Ishmael?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. (ESV)
