Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 26:1-33. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- Compare verses 1-5 with Genesis 12:1-3. What is similar? What is different? What is the significance of God repeated these promises?
- Compare Isaac’s “she is my sister” story with Abraham’s two “she is my sister” stories in Genesis 12:10-20 and 20:1-18. What is similar? What is different? How might this be encouraging to us even though the patriarch fails again in the same way?
- Why is Isaac so fruitful in the middle of a famine (v. 12-14)? How did this impact those around him?
- Genesis 12:3 and 26:4 state that the nations of the earth will be blessed through Abraham and his family. How is that promised already being fulfilled in the lifetime of Isaac?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Deuteronomy 31:8 It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. (ESV)
