The Quieted Soul

  • A Trusting Heart

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Psalm 131. David begins this psalm with three claims, what are they? How would you describe these in your own words? Which of these do you tend to struggle with?
  2. We are given a wonderful picture in v. 2 of the opposite of pride. What is that picture? How does a weaned child with its mother help us to understand and make sense of resting in the Lord?
  3. Is David pointing us towards childish faith or a childlike faith? How would you distinguish the difference between the two of these?
  4. This psalm presents for us a great question that we do well to answer honestly, are you content and resting in the Lord today? What areas of life today leave your soul not calm and quieted? How might this reveal what we are really hoping in today? How does v. 3 exhort, challenge, and encourage you in light of this?
  5. How does this psalm point us to the gospel? How can you take this psalm and make it your prayer this week?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Matthew 18:1-4 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (ESV)
