Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Psalm 132. Of the 15 psalms collected as the Song of Ascents (Ps. 120-134), Psalm 132 is the longest by far. What references are repeated in this psalm? How might these references give clue to why this psalm would be such an important one to sing for God’s people?
  2. Looking at v. 1-5, how might we learn to pray? What similarities and differences do you see in the way you pray to the Lord? How might our prayers (or lack thereof) expose what our hearts truly treasure and trust in most?
  3. Looking at v. 6-10, what do God’s people deeply desire most? Do you share this similar passion and zeal for their desire? Why or why not?
  4. Looking at v. 11-18, what confidence and comfort is drawn for God’s people in these verses? Take some time and meditate on these wonderful and astonishing truths!
  5. How does this psalm point us to the gospel? How can you take this psalm and make it your prayer this week?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Psalm 132:11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne.” (ESV)
