Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 31:17-42. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- Why does Jacob “trick” Laban and flee? How is Jacob’s fleeing a sin against God?
- The Bible does not give us any indication why Rachel stole her father’s idols. Why do you think she might have taken them? What does this reveal about Rachel?
- In this story we find two sinful men reacting to each other’s sin. Why is this so common? If they were walking by the Spirit (Gal. 5:16), how would these two men interact?
- What is God doing in this story? Why does God not always protect his people from harm? What assurance do we gain from God’s protection of Jacob?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Psalm 121:7 The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. (ESV)
