Genesis: Foundations for Life
The Heap of Witness
A Peaceful Resolution
Some Keys to Conflict Resolution
- Openly Address the Conflict
- Be Quick to Forgive
- Seek Outside Help
- Be Mindful of the Presence of God
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read Genesis 31:43-55. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
- Compare Laban and Jacob in this passage. How do they respond differently to the conflict and peace-making process?
- What is the value of the pillar and heap of stones? In what ways can we erect a pillar or heap of stones today?
- What can we learn from this interaction about conflict resolution? Why is it so important to address conflict openly?
- Laban calls on multiple gods as witnesses in verse 53 while Jacob swears by the “Fear of his father Isaac.” Why is this distinction significant? What does it mean and look like to live all of life before the presence of God?
Memory Verse of the Week:
Romans 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. (ESV)
