Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Philemon 8-25. What is striking about the fact that Paul appeals to Philemon for the sake of love rather than command?
  2. How does Paul’s appeal give us a real, practical understanding of what the power of the gospel does? Are there any people in your life today that you have a hard time to consider as a true brother/sister in Christ?
  3. Why is Paul confident that Philemon will receive Onesimus as a brother (v.21)?
  4. This whole section of Philemon points to the wonder of God’s great reconciling love in Christ. What stands out to you? What challenges you? What encourages you?
  5. How might you approach the relationships in your life differently if you had God’s great reconciling love for you at the forefront of your mind and heart?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Philemon 21 Confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. (ESV)
