Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read 3 John. How does John (The Elder) think of Gaius? How do you think Gaius’ understanding of the gospel informs the way he lives his life?
  2. What is the issue that John brings up in regards to Diotrephes?
  3. The natural outworking of the gospel in our lives should cultivate deep friendship and support of one another to know and make known Christ. In your honest evaluation, what makes this difficult for you? How does the gospel combat the consumeristic culture that surrounds us?
  4. Who are examples of godliness and integrity in your life? At Oak Hills? How can you commend and encourage them as you acknowledge the evident work of grace of God in their lives?
  5. Consider the reflection on page 3 of the bulletin. The reality of the gospel calls each of us to “greet the friend, each by name”. In practical terms, who and how can you intentionally “greet the friends” this week?

Memory Verse of the Week:

3 John 1:11 Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God. (ESV)
