Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Nehemiah 2:9-20. What catches your attention from this passage? Why?
  2. Why does Nehemiah inspect the walls at night? Why does he wait to inform the people of his plans?
  3. What does the phrase “my God had put into my heart” (v. 12) mean? How does God put anything into our hearts?
  4. What sort of obstacles does Nehemiah face? Which one seems to be the most difficult? Why?
  5. Why is it so surprising that the people seem to easily respond, “Let us rise up and build” (v. 18)? In what sense is this a miracle?
  6. What sort of needs do we face as a church? What obstacles hinder us? How does working together enable us to accomplish greater goals?

Memory Verse of the Week:

Philippians 1:27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel. (ESV)
