Working for Your Joy
Finding Joy in Trials
James 1:2-4
- Various Kinds of Trials
- Testing to Steadfastness to Perfection
- Sanctification as Your Joy
Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:
- Read James 1:1-4. To whom is James writing? Who are these people? What is the dispersion?
- The word "trials" in verse 2 is the same word used for temptation in Matthew 6:13 and 1 Corinthians 10:13. Do you think James would include temptations in his "trials of various kinds"? Why or why not?
- Explain the process James describes in verses 2-4 - Testing of faith produces steadfastness. Steadfastness's full effect is perfection and completion. How does this work?
- Why does James encourage his readers to find joy in this process? Why is this so good?
- Practically, how do we obey James’ first command, "Count" (can be translated "consider" or "regard")?
