Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion
- Read Mark 15:16-37. What does Jesus suffer during this day? Which affliction would be the most difficult to endure? Why?
- Read Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53. What is the significance of Jesus fulfilling these prophetic passages?
- Read Romans 3:21-26, 8:1-4, & 2 Corinthians 5:21. What is the theological significance of the cross? How does Christ’s action “save” us?
- How should we respond to the reality of the cross? Why is paralyzing guilt not appropriate and, actually, an offense to the cross?
- Isaac Watts wrote in his famous hymn, “When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.” What does this mean? Why would he respond like this in thinking on the cross of Christ?
