  1. Read Jonah 1:4-16. Why does God do what he does? What is he aiming for? Is there something more than Nineveh going on?
  2. Compare and contrast Jonah and the mariners. Perhaps, make lists of each of their actions and compare. How does Jonah demonstrate he does not fear the Lord? How do the mariners demonstrate fear of the Lord?
  3. What is the fear of the Lord? Why would Christians be tempted to ignore this virtue?
  4. What does fear of the Lord look like for a Christian, in light of the work of Christ? Get specific.
