Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion
- Read Isaiah 52:13-53:12. What is the significance of the opening words of this Servant Song? How does the Servant “act wisely” or “prosper”?
- What does 53:10 say about the relationship between the Lord and the Servant? What does the Servant accomplish? What does he receive?
- What is the significance of the last line of this Servant Song (53:12)? What does intercession have to do with bearing sin?
- Consider the words of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:1-5. What work did the Father give Jesus to do? What does the Father promise to do for Jesus?
- Read Romans 6:1-4. Why is it ridiculous to Paul to think that the death of Jesus only gives us forgiveness of sins? What else do we gain from Jesus’ work (consider also Eph. 1:3-6; Heb. 7:25)?
Memory Verse of the Week: Review: Isaiah 53:4-6 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned-- every one-- to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
