The Hope of the Resurrection
Newness of Life
Romans 6:1-11

  • Dead or Alive: What are we?
  • United to Christ: What does it mean?
  • Obeying the Command “Consider”

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion

  1. Read Romans 6:1-11. Explain what the thought is behind the question in verse 1. Why would anyone think that grace would allow one to “continue in sin”?
  2. What is the death Paul is describing that Christians have died? How do Christians experience this death?
  3. What is the “newness of life” promised to Christians? How does the resurrection of Christ assure this new life?
  4. If the “body of sin” has been “brought to nothing” (v. 6), why do Christians still sin?
  5. How do we obey verse 11? What does it look like to “consider” oneself dead to sin? What does it mean to be alive to God?

Memory Verse of the Week: Romans 6:4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (ESV)
