Life in the Spirit, Part 1

  • The Struggle Between Flesh and Spirit
  • Understanding Flesh & Its Works
  • The Christian’s Relationship with Flesh

Questions for Further Study or Group Discussion:

  1. Read Galatians 5:16-26. Take note of what Paul says about “the flesh.” What is the flesh? How does the flesh operate? Consider also Paul’s teaching in Romans 8:5-13.
  2. Explain what the struggle in verse 17 looks like in your life. Compare with Romans 7:22-23. How does this struggle sanctify you?
  3. Consider Paul’s warning in verse 21. How does this not contradict Paul’s teaching earlier in Galatians (2:16) that we are not saved, therefore sons and heirs, by what we do? If we are not saved by what we do, how can we be disqualified by what we do?
  4. Explain the importance of verse 24. If our “flesh” is crucified, why do we still struggle with the flesh? How do we overcome the flesh?

Memory Verse of the Week: Galatians 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (ESV)
